** NEW ** The November 6, 2009 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report includes a Surveillance Summary of Stroke data from the Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Registry. The report summarizes data collected from 2005-2007 from the states of Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. Minnesota began participating in the registry in 2008. Please go to the Data and Reports page to download a copy for free.

Primary Stroke Center Map: The Minnesota Stroke Partnership has published a Google map of Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers in Minnesota and in bordering regions of adjacent states. Please click here to access this map.

The Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute has announced the Fall events in their 2009 Stroke Lecture Series. This monthly education series for stroke survivors and their care partners addresses topics related to recovery and living life after stroke. The events are free and open to all. Sessions alternate between Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and United Hospital in St. Paul. More information, including a schedule and location of 2009 events can be downloaded here, or events can be found on the MSP Calendar for September 15th, October 20th and November 17th.

Fairview Southdale Hospital has announced its 2009 Neurosciences Program entitled "Current Concepts in Neurosurgical and Stroke Care", to be held Friday, October 23, 2009 from 7:15 am until 3 pm at the Metropolitan Ballroom in Golden Valley. CE credits are offered. A conference flyer with more information can be downloaded here. Registration must be completed by October 12th at Fairview's secure server.

The American Heart Association in partnership with the Ad Council has released a new ad campaign urging African-Americans and bystanders to call 911 at the first sign of a stroke. The new campaign, including two TV spots can be viewed at AHA's Power to End Stroke pages.

The Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI) has published its new stroke guidelines and order sets. These are available for free to use.

AGA Medical Corporation has partnered with stroke survivor and professional football player Tedy Bruschi on a series of short videos detailing his experience with a stroke in 2005. These include 6 separate video clips including Signs & Symptoms, Experiencing a Stroke, and Recovery From Stroke, among others. They are available on the Tackling Stroke channel at YouTube, or through the AGA Medical Corporation's website.

The American Association of Neuroscience Nurses has recently released clinical practice guidelines, "Guide to the Care of the Hospitalized Patient with Ischemic Stroke 2nd Edition". These guidelines can be downloaded free of charge from their website at http://www.aann.org/pubs/guidelines.html. There is a short online anonymous download request form before you can download the guidelines.

A new policy brief entitled "Recommendations for the Implementation of Telemedicine within Stroke Systems of Care" from the American Heart Association was published online on May 7, 2009. The full article will appear in the journal Stroke at a later date. In the meantime, download a copy of the policy brief here.

A supplementary ICD-9 v-code is available starting October 1, 2008 to identify 'drip and ship' patients. Click here to be redirected to a news release on this topic from the American Academy of Neurology.
